David is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with an MA in Counselling Psychology and a PhD in Theatre and Performance Studies from Trinity College Dublin. His practice focuses on individuals working in demanding intellectual and institutional environments—academia, healthcare, and leadership contexts—where burnout, overextension, and complex internal dynamics often exceed the reach of standard therapeutic models.
He has particular expertise in working with chronic and complex medical conditions, environmental illness, and forms of distress that remain difficult to name or situate within conventional diagnostic frameworks. He also works with clients navigating trauma, anxiety, and significant life transitions, especially where these intersect with professional identity and institutional life.
With over twenty years in higher education as a professor, researcher, and administrator, David brings a deep understanding of the pressures and contradictions of high-performance knowledge work. His approach integrates modalities such as elements Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, somatic experiencing, mindfulness-based practices, narrative therapy, and depth-oriented work with archetypes, while remaining responsive to the specific needs and orientations of each client.
His practice is collaborative, rigorous, and grounded. It offers a space for careful, sustained engagement with complex experience—supporting forms of change that are not only meaningful, but structurally and intellectually coherent within the realities of his clients’ lives.
