DBT Therapy for Anger Management

Picture this: It's a cold fall morning, and you're just about to leave for work when your car won't start. You call your partner to ask for a ride, hoping for a bit of help, but instead they remind you that they told you last week to get your car checked because a light was flashing on the dashboard. Already feeling overwhelmed and anxious, you begin to feel yourself get hot and shaky and are on the cusp of lashing out. But you stop. You have been here before. You are aware of what is happening in your body and recognize that you are needing to help yourself calm down so you can move forward and figure out your next steps. You tell your partner you are ending the phone call, walk away from the car, and begin taking some deep breaths.

Let's be honest, how many times did we actually lash out instead of stopping ourselves in our tracks and ending the phone call. A LOT! But recently, your therapist introduced you to something called "DBT" (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), a type of therapy that teaches you to regulate your emotions so that you can make better decisions and navigate problems with clarity.


Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a gentle approach that helps you find balance in your thinking styles, emotional experiences and relationships so that you can begin to feel more in control of your life. To help us get there, DBT focuses on 4 main areas:
