Nan Ma (April), MSW, RSW
Registered Social Worker & Clinical Counsellor
Bilingual Counselling in English and Mandarin
Nan Ma (April) is a Registered Social Worker in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).
With extensive experience in university student wellness, community mental health, and clinical counselling, including providing mental health services at Brock University, April brings a compassionate, collaborative, and culturally responsive approach to her practice.
April supports individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, life transitions, and challenges related to cross-cultural experiences. She strives to create a warm, confidential, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to explore their concerns and work toward meaningful change.
Her approach is client-centred and strengths-based, drawing on evidence-informed practices such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed strategies, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She tailors counselling to each client's unique needs, goals, values, and lived experiences, with a focus on emotional regulation, psychological flexibility, and self-compassion.
As a bilingual clinician, April is passionate about making mental health support accessible to English- and Mandarin-speaking clients. She recognizes how language, family expectations, identity, and life experiences can shape emotional well-being. Her goal is to help clients build resilience, develop greater self-understanding, and move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life.
