Kariann is a Master of Social Work Student with the University of Windsor. Her educational background also includes a Bachelor Honors Degree in Psychology from Brock University as well as a Social Service Worker diploma from Niagara College. Kariann positions herself as a settler to Turtle Island and has made an ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, working with Indigenous populations for the past 5 years. Kariann has over 10 years of experience in the social services sector in a variety of settings, serving individuals, groups, and families experiencing a multitude of difficulties including substance use, mental health challenges, domestic violence, and intergenerational trauma. Kariann takes a person-centered approach while rooted in awareness of disparities created by racism, sexism, and heteronormativity entrenched within dominant social systems. Kariann also prioritizes collaborative relationships in her work and utilizes harm reduction and trauma-informed approaches. Kariann uses a generalist, eclectic style, with familiarity in techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills, and Solution-Focused approaches.
