Heather MacKenzie is a neurodiverse, queer therapist and Registered Social Worker who has been working in the field of children and youth mental health for over two decades. She spent 17 years working with children and youth growing up in foster care and now works in the public school system in addition to their work here at Nova Phoenix. Heather specializes in issues related to neurodiversity, anxiety, depression, self harm and trauma as well as gender identity, expression and sexuality. They work using a variety of modalities including CBT, DBT, parts work (internal family systems) and ACT and weaves art and play into her sessions. Heather is open to all young clients but is especially focused on working with 2SLGBTQ+ children, youth and their families to provide support, therapy, education and community building. Heather is also able to provide Secondary Letters of Support for gender affirming surgeries.
